Description
Learn to stargaze. Learn how to understand the sky from your own backyard. Take stargazing skills with you on a road trip, even abroad. Get the knowledge you need to become an informed, naked eye stargazer.
We show you how to understand the night sky so that you can enjoy meaningful stargazing.
If only it was a simple thing! It is – we demonstrate in practical ways that the view is readily understood, with practice and with your interest in wanting to know.
We share knowledge of the things you need to know to understand the view, using plain language.
The objective of this learning session is plain – you leave our venue able to apply knowledge to understand the changing night sky view.
We will show you how to make sense of the sky.
With the basic information you can take control of how and where your stargazing passion evolves.
Depending on the time of day, bring hat, sunscreen, sunglasses. If some of your session is timed to coincide with dusk or evening, expect to be moving about. Dress appropriately for the time of year. Always wear closed in shoes and socks, long trousers, long sleeves, in the outback. Notepad and pen may be useful for you. We realise everyone has a different pace, and a preferred way of learning. We expect some follow up contact from you when you are back in your own home, trying to figure things out. We are happy to get online or on the phone to help you over any hurdles connected with naked eye stargazing and the changing sky.
This event is able to proceed day or night, and timing may be adjusted to better suit you, with consideration necessarily given to our other scheduled programmes.
We introduce you to stargazing indoors and may proceed outdoors for practical demonstrations (though not necessary, and subject to suitable conditions).
Rain or cloud day or night will not impact this learning session. Please note you will need a copy of Outback Astronomy’s Stargazing Field Guide for the session. One book is included in the price. The curiosity of thousands of guests formed the basis of the book’s content. The most common questions asked about how to understand the changing sky are addressed in this book.
Refreshments are included in your ticket. We will liaise with you in the lead up to the session. Select a cold or hot beverage eg sparkling mineral or still water, barista coffee, tea, hot chocolate or chai latte. Select your snack eg a BLT toastie (bacon-lettuce-tomato) or fresh CLT (cheese-lettuce-tomato) sandwich.
