Are you ready for an unforgettable night under the stars while enjoying the surreal Total Lunar Eclipse 2025 event? On the evening of Sunday, 7 September 2025, a full moon will rise over the outback, illuminating the vast sky. But as the night deepens, a spectacular transformation awaits—a total lunar eclipse! Join us at Outback Astronomy in Broken Hill for an extraordinary all-nighter that promises to be both awe-inspiring and cosy. Here’s everything you need to know.

A Night Like No Other: The Total Lunar Eclipse 2025 Experience

Our sky show begins after midnight on Monday, 8 September 2025, from 1:30 am onwards. As Earth’s shadow slowly covers the moon, the outback sky will darken, revealing a tapestry of stars and hidden celestial wonders. The main event, the totality, peaks after 3 am local time—so bring your cameras! This is a golden opportunity to capture a time lapse record of the eclipse and practice other astro-imaging skills. If you need a quick nap, feel free to settle into your reclined chair—we can set an alarm for you.

Never miss an eclipse, no matter where you are in the world. The resources on Time and Date are fabulous.

Stargazing, Snacks and More

From 1:30 am, it’s all about grazing and gazing. Our coffee machine will be in full swing, serving up hot chocolates, chai lattes, and freshly brewed coffee to keep you warm and awake. We’ll also have a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. Got allergies? Let us know when you book or register (see “Secure Your Spot Today”, below).

Feel the chill? Warm up by “Draco,” our giant pot-belly fireplace, installed mid-2024 to make winter and cool nights extra cosy. Draco was proudly made by Mitch’s Potbellys and More in Uranquinty, near Wagga Wagga, NSW. At Outback Astronomy, we’re committed to supporting as much regional Australian industry as possible. Check out Mitch’s work here (he and his team make practical items for folks on the land).

Every guest will receive a copy of Outback Astronomy’s Stargazing Field Guide to enhance your outback adventures.
