See the Sun

View the Sun safely in real time through our specialised solar-viewing equipment.

You may see dark patches on the Sun, or sunspots, or large, bright filaments that extend outward into the Sun’s atmosphere, called prominences or flares.

Now is the time to See the Sun as we head into solar maximum.

Description

Solar activity is increasing and this affects activity on the surface of the Sun. This activity is likely visible through our solar-safe telescopes.

Learn about the Sun, its cycles, what is meant by maximum and minimum cycles and other fascinating details about our home star. We will explain the nature of the Sun and why it matters to us.

This is a daytime astronomy learning experience that introduces you to stars. If you See the Sun and get to know more about it, stargazing in the evening becomes more meaningful.

View safely in real time – put your eye into the eyepiece of our solar telescope to find amazing solar activity. We also project a solar image from our smart telescope onto a large screen to make the viewing of sunspots so much more convenient.

No prior knowledge required. We will explain the viewing and share the story of the Sun with you.

This event is suitable for all persons aged 6 years and over.
