The Experience

Outback Astronomy invites you to discover the night sky in Broken Hill, NSW

Discover the Outback Astronomy Experience

Outback Astronomy offers a unique stargazing experience in Broken Hill, where the vast dark skies of Far West NSW become your personal window to the universe.

Just minutes from town but far from city lights, our outdoor stargazing venue provides the perfect setting to connect with the cosmos. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a space enthusiast, this is your chance to enjoy an immersive astronomy experience under one of Australia’s clearest skies.

What to Expect During Your Stargazing Session

Our stargazing sky shows invite you to relax in a comfortable reclined chair, breathe in the fresh outback air, and gaze upward at a sky full of stars. Using a green laser pointer, your guide will reveal constellations, planets, star clusters, the Milky Way and other wonders of the Southern Hemisphere night sky.

On darker nights, the sky stretches endlessly above you, unpolluted by artificial light. Evenings with the Moon provide a different perspective, showcasing its craters and detail through telescope viewing when available.

Our commentary blends astronomy, science and storytelling. You’ll hear engaging explanations of what you’re seeing, and sometimes cultural interpretations of the sky, including Indigenous perspectives.
