Earth’s Moon never has a holiday

In the coming months, Outback Astronomy’s events will include viewings of the ancient constellations of the zodiac and highlight some of the iconic objects within them, and nearby, like the image attached.

If you are wondering why there are no sky shows for the next six days, from 22 December, it is because our bright friend the Moon is above in our early evenings.

We cannot enjoy dark sky views of the stars with a waxing Moon.

Our next event is on 29 December 2023, subject to a clear sky.

So be patient and wait for the next few months during Moon-free nights.

If attending one of our summer time sky shows, enjoy some storytelling during these late evenings. The dark skies reveal the faintest stars within one of the greatest dark sky views – the hunting scene that reveals Orion, his dogs and the bull.

During 2024 we will schedule some moonlit events for those who are planning to travel in these times, and also for those looking to learn how to stargaze.
