Taking Shape

There is so much joy right now at Outback Astronomy. The stargazing site at 18817 Barrier Highway, Broken Hill, NSW, is being transformed.

Outback Astronomy developed a “sky dome” one and a half years ago – a flat area for gazing up. The “dome” was a bit of a misnomer since this gazing dome was square-shaped.

If you’ve attended a sky show, eg Hang Out With The Stars® hosted most weekends, then you’d appreciate that the great dome of the sky above is truly awesome. It is an overwhelming 360° panorama seen from our location in outback NSW. Therefore, a dome to stand on while gazing up would be very fitting, right?

So we have begun to rectify this. This week we began a major project to give it its true shape.

We’re building a circular gazing site so that the circle shape of the sky above (the dome) will be viewed from a circular base (or a near-circle – a little bit squashed, just like planetary motion about the Sun).
