Prepare to stargaze

It won’t be too long before visitors to Broken Hill can begin to stargaze at the Outback Astronomy sky dome once more.

While we wait for the official green light from the NSW Government, take note of a few changes:

  • Sleeping bags or blankets will not be supplied by us until further notice.
  • You must bring your own blanket or sleeping bag, and a pillow if you wish to be in extreme comfort while reclined.
  • Dress in warm layers – a thermal layer, high necked undershirt, turtle-neck shirt, jumper, coat and overcoat or insulated coat or “puff jacket”. Plus beanie, gloves, scarf or neck-warmer. That’s the minimum winter outfit observed by us so you should plan to wear layers like this too.
  • See the blazing camp fire in the image? That will be lit only if conditions permit when telescope gazing is scheduled. Please do not rely upon a campfire for warmth. If it is too breezy, fire smoke prevents clear stargazing.

June and July sky shows will be re-listed before the end of May, on the calendar of sky shows. We look forward to hosting great starry night gazing events soon, even though our groups will be smaller and all our guests spaced widely apart.
